Finding my voice as an introvert
I usually shy away from labels but “introvert” suits me perfectly
I like staying in over going out.
I prefer smaller, more intimate groups over big groups.
I love a deep conversation rather than meaningless small talk.
My social battery starts running low after a while and I always need time to recharge after people-ing.
I enjoy socialising when it’s with the right people and vibe and I’ve finally found my voice and what feels authentic to me, but that wasn’t always the case.
Throughout my younger years, I faced some very difficult personal challenges and so I never felt very confident. I hated being looked at, I dreaded speaking up in class and I practically stopped talking during my last two years of secondary school. Teachers always pointed out how quiet I was at school, but never dug deeper to work out why or offer to support me.
For a long time I simply believed I was just a shy person. However, through years of healing and learning to embrace my introverted self, I’ve come to realise that I’m not shy when I’m around people I trust and feel comfortable with.
When I started my first business in 2020 I began using social media properly for the first time and this was a turning point for me. Although being visible on socials conflicted with my introverted nature, it ultimately led to personal and business growth for me. Over the last four years I have consistently stepped out of my comfort zone and grown in confidence, carving my own path in business.
This has helped me discover my passion for coworking, connecting people and building a community of like-minded women.
Finding my people has boosted my confidence in social situations too. Although I always need a nana nap after hosting my in-person events, I always leave feeling on top of the world.
I’ve learnt that I can be successful without the need to mask myself and introversion doesn’t mean being alone- but about being around the right people.
Can you relate to this? I’d love to hear your story.
