Meet the Member - Lorna Shakesheff

We LOVE celebrating our members and highlighting the incredible impact the Pink Coral Community has had on them.

Meet Lorna from LCS Bookkeeping and Payroll Services, offering accountancy expertise with over 20 years of experience. While we may not live nearby or see each other in person, we stay connected through our virtual coworking sessions and WhatsApp group.

Over to you Lorna:

My name is Lorna, and I am the owner of LCS Bookkeeping and Payroll Services.  I am based in Ledbury, Herefordshire, but support clients over the UK.  I started my self-employed journey in 2016, after 16 years of employment in the accountancy world, to gain some flexibility back.  I am a mum of two teens, and my oldest has ASD, so it was very difficult juggling family needs with an employed role.

My son is now employed at LCS Bookkeeping! We help sole traders (registrations, bookkeeping, VAT, payroll, and Self Assessments) to understand their finances and keep things on track.  We also support Limited Companies with bookkeeping (making sure they are ready for handover to their accountant), and accountants (outsourced services).  Most of our work is carried out virtually, using Zoom for meetings and paperless bookkeeping.  I am also a huge cash flow enthusiast and love teaching clients about this!

I love meeting new people, whether it is fellow clients/business owners or networking events.  I also love being in control of my own workload, diary and finances, whilst still being flexible enough to support my family with medical appointments or school meetings, etc (not having to beg an employer for time off).  I work from home, but can also work where the laptop (and Wi-Fi) takes me.

I run a one hour 1:2:1 session on Zoom, which supports business owners who are not ready to outsource, but just want to check they are moving along the right path.  I have held sessions to discuss completing a self assessment, employing for the first time, allowable expenses, how VAT works, and understanding cash flow forecasting. https://calendly.com/lorna-lcs/power-hour-booking

I joined Pink Coral Community to take part in their virtual co-working sessions (although I am 3 hours away, by train), as working from home can feel a little lonely sometimes, and it is always nice to have a quick chat and catch-up before getting on with the tasks ahead.  Often using the pomodoro technique, I am held accountable to complete the tasks which I would normally keep putting off (admin, etc) and feels good to complete them.  Everyone is very welcoming and friendly, and it is nice to have a WhatsApp group where Nikki checks in on us, and we chat about the day ahead.
