Is It Just a Chat? (Spoiler: Absolutely Not.)
You know that thing where someone pops along to a networking event, has a lovely time, vibes with a few women… and then later says:
“It was really nice, but I’m not sure what I actually got out of it?”
Totally fair. Especially if you’re used to the more traditional kind of networking that’s super structured.
But just because there weren’t any powerpoints, business card swaps or forced referrals, doesn’t mean there weren’t opportunities.
The opportunities are there.
They’re just a bit more subtle.
A bit more human.
And they usually show up after the event (probably while you’re in your joggers, scrolling Instagram thinking “ooh, she was really interesting”).
So where are the actual opportunities then?
Pink Coral events don’t follow the usual ‘stand up and impress the room’ vibe. We’re more of a “grab a drink, pull up a chair and have a natter” kind of crowd.
We’re what I like to call community-style networking.
Free-flowing. Zero pressure. Perfect for the quietly ambitious woman.
But that doesn’t mean we’re all just there to put the world to rights.
Here’s what is happening:
You’re meeting kind, interesting women who know exactly what it’s like running a solo or small business.
You’re planting the seeds for potential collabs, client relationships and friendships.
You’re building deeper relationships and trust (without even realising).
And if you take that one step further after the event, that’s where the magic is.
Here’s how to keep that connection going (without feeling like a creepy stalker)
It’s all in the follow up!
Book a 1:1 coffee or Zoom catch up – Not to sell. Just to keep the conversation going and find out more about each other.
Be nosy (in a nice way) – Ask what their goals are, what they need support with, what they’re stuck on. You’ll either find a way to help or realise you both hate being on social media, and there’s your bond.
Connect on socials – Follow. DM. Share something they’ve posted, tag them if you’re talking about a topic they mentioned and start cheering them on.
Send a quick message – A little “So lovely to meet you today!” goes a long way. Even better if you personalise it with something they mentioned in your convo.
And don’t forget to:
Commit and be consistent – Show up to the events regularly and really get to know people and let people know you too.
This bit’s important though…
Please don’t book in 1:1s with the hidden plan of turning it into a pitch. (That happens more than you know, both online and in-person).
It sucks! No one likes being baited into a chat that turns into a sales pitch. It’s icky, it’s awkward, and honestly, it puts people right off.
Don’t harass them in their DM’s either. Instead, try having an actual conversation. Be curious, kind and always treat people like…well, people.
Connection first. Always.
At Pink Coral, we’re not about working the room. We’re about finding our people. The ones who get it.
You’re not expected to leave with a client. (Although it has happened.)
You are expected to leave thinking: “She was fab. I want to talk to her again.”
That’s it. That’s the whole point.
Real networking? It’s the slow burn kind.
So yes, the event might feel like “just a chat.” But if you let it, that chat could turn into your next client. Or your new business bestie. Or someone who shares your post, introduces you to someone, or gives you a much-needed pep talk next time you’re having a wobble.
Because connection is the opportunity.
And if you do love the vibe and want to stay even more connected between meetups? That’s the beauty of becoming a Pink Coral Community member.
You’ll get daily support, regular visibility, and a nudge to stay consistent (even when you’re juggling a million things). It's not just a meetup. It's your business support system.
